Alex had the cab drop her off as close to the pier as possible. Walking towards the entrance, Alex saw Rebecca standing right next one of the vendors. She looked amazing. Rebecca was wearing a sun dress that stopped mid-thigh and matching flip flops. Her long, curly, brown hair was pinned up and to the side. Alex was smiling from ear to ear.
“Hey beautiful.” Alex spoke as she wrapped her arms around Rebecca’s waist from behind.
Rebecca giggled softly and spun around in Alex’s arms. “Hey baby. You made it.”
“Of course I made it.” Alex replied. “What did you think…that I would stand you up?
Rebecca let her gaze fall to the floor. She knew she was going to have to explain why she stood Alex up the other night. “Yeah… about that. I was ready to hit you up and make plans but Toni had a rough day and really needed me there.”
“I figured it was something like that.” Alex said, pretending like she didn’t care that Toni would always come before her. “It’s no problem.”
Alex smiled at Rebecca so she would believe she was sincere. The second Rebecca say that smile, she knew she was forgiven. That was one of the things she never got from Toni. Toni was always so serious, she never smiled and you never knew if she was happy unless she told you and she never really told you. Alex was so open with her feelings and she allowed Rebecca to see them all the time.
“Let’s go for that walk on the beach.” Alex said, slipping her hand into Rebecca’s.
Rebecca moved as she was asked and let her head lay on her shoulder as they walked towards the sand.
The day was so calm. There were people out, but neither of them noticed. When they got together, even if they weren’t saying anything at all, it was as if they were all alone. After walking in silence for a while, they stopped to look out at the ocean. Alex stood behind Rebecca and wrapped her arms around her waist. She loved holding her like this. For some reason, it made her feel like she was all hers.
“The water looks so beautiful and peaceful, doesn’t it?” Rebecca asked, leaning her body back against Alex’s.
“Yeah, it’s nice.” Alex responded.
“What are you thinking?”Rebecca asked. She knew that Alex was always thinking something. She hoped it was about her. She wouldn’t tell Alex this, but she and Toni got into an argument about her just before she texted her earlier today. Toni wanted to finally meet her or they couldn’t hang out anymore.
Rebecca was not ready to merge her two worlds and she didn’t want Toni to pick up any of Alex’s feelings when they were around each other. That was another thing that Rebecca loved about Alex. Anyone within ten feet of them new exactly how she felt. Rebecca was felt loved whenever she was around Alex. She knew she was completely safe in her arms. Rebecca told Toni she would get to meet Alex as soon as Alex had the time and not to limit their friendship. Toni yelled some more, but Rebecca walked out and slammed the door behind her.
“You.” Alex said quietly.
“Huh.” Rebecca was snatched back from her memory of her fight with Toni. “What did you say?”
Alex chuckled, “You asked me what I was thinking about. I said you”
“Oh, yeah.” Rebecca spun around to face Alex and look into her eyes. She loved being able to do that. “Well, what about me?”
Alex smiled to cover her hesitation. She wanted to share all of her thoughts with Rebecca, but she didn’t want to say anything that Rebecca didn’t agree with.
“Don’t think about your answer.” Rebecca interrupted. “I know you’re editing your thoughts Alex, just answer the question. What about me?”
“I care about you a lot.” Alex tucked a curl back behind Rebecca’s ear. “You make me smile and I never want you to be unhappy. I…”
Rebecca interrupted Alex again but placing her lips against Alex’s softly. When she pulled away to look in her eyes Rebecca whispered, “I wish she was like you.”
“There’s no one like me baby. You’ll just have to get the original.” Alex replied, in a cocky tone.
“Do I have the original?” Rebecca asked, smiling to herself, already knowing the answer.
“Yes.” Alex kissed Rebecca’s cheek. “I’m all yours.”
Rebecca bit her lip just as Alex pulled her body higher to reach her lips. This time, their lips parted and they kissed deep and passionate. Kisses Rebecca expressed everything Alex wanted to say.
Silently and not to interrupt their kiss, Rebecca thought about the two woman she had in her life that devoted everything to her. She couldn’t help but wonder if she should just leave her girlfriend for Alex and finally be happy. She couldn’t though. She didn’t want to be labeled as a cheater and she didn’t want to hurt Toni.
Rebecca forced herself to stop thinking about the situation and get lost in Alex’s kisses. She was amazing at it. Being in Alex’s arms, tasting her lips and hopefully tasting more later was all Rebecca wanted to think about for the next few hours.
