Nadia Monroe took her time stepping out the shower, she was in no rush to get ready. Every Friday, she and her highschool sweetheart did the same thing, dinner and dancing at the country club.
Nadia wiped her mirror with a tissue and began applying her make-up. She never wore much to cover her soft medium complexion. She was an exotic mix of Colombian and Black. With light, brown eyes and curly, black hair that fell to the middle of her back, make-up was not a necessity, it was an accessory.
When Nadia finished, she slipped into a one piece, tight fitting, red dress. She knew Charles would think it was too tight but she didn’t care what he or the country clubbers thought. Nadia wanted to be extra sexy tonight.
She was about to pick out her heels when her phone rang. She didn’t need the personal ringtone to know it was her overbearing mother. Nadia’s mother always called when she knew Charles was taking her out.
“Hello mother,” Nadia spoke in a half joking, half serious tone.
“Nadia Monroe are you ready for Charles? I just spoke with him and he’s not far from your apartment. You know, you should give him a key for emergencies. I don’t think your roommates will mind. He’s such a nice boy. Oh i can’t wait for your wedding day. The country club has already offered us their best ball room. Once you’ve both graduated and right before he begins med-school and you begin law school and….” Nadia’s mother would have continued if it weren’t for the knock on Nadia’s door.
“Mom, I hate to interrupt you, but Charles is here. Bye.” Nadia ended the call before her mother could say another word. She was use to her mother gushing over Charles, but over the years it got old and Nadia was tired of them both.
One of Nadia’s roommates let Charles in and he was waiting by the door when Nadia came out in her red dress, red heels and red clutch. She wore diamonds on her ears, neck and wrist. She looked like the money she was raised on.
“That dress is a little tight for the country club, don’t you think?” Charles spoke before even saying hello. “What would your mother say?”
“She’d say, leave your panties at home,” Nadia Monroe smirked and laughed at herself. She walked past Charles and out the door.
The drive to the country club was silent. Nothing but the classical music playing on the radio station he loved. They never had small talk. Nadia was use to it though.
“Hey that place looks nice, let’s go there instead,” Nadia said as she pointed out the bar and grill they were passing.
The place looked packed. It was filled with the college students from the neighborhood.
“Um, I don’t think so. It looks…dirty.” Charles scrunched up his face.
“Please, please, please, Charles. Let’s just have one drink there,” Nadia just wanted a regular night with fun food, drinks and people. She was tired of the stuffiness at the club.
It took a few more minutes of begging, which Nadia hated, but Charles finally turned around and pulled into the parking lot.
He set his car alarm twice, so everyone would know not to touch his 2012 Jaguar. He pulled Nadia close and walked into the restaurant.
From the outside, Charles and Nadia looked like the perfect couple. He was two feet taller than her, average build and a sharp dresser. He was her complexion and had light brown eyes with green creeping in.
They managed to grab two seats at the bar, but couldn’t seem to get the bartender’s attention. Every time Charles snapped his fingers in the air, the closest bartender moved further away.
“You’re never going to get a drink like that.” A voice spoke from behind them.
When Nadia looked, she had to stop herself from staring. The girl was leaning so close to her, they could’ve kissed by now. The girl had piercing, hazel eyes and a diamond stud in each ear. Her hair was brown and cut short, it went well with her caramel complexion.
Nadia finally spoke, “Um, do you think you could be any closer to my face right now?” Her tone was full of attitude.
“You’re at a bar Princess, if you have issues with personal space, stay home.” The girl replied with just as much sarcasm.
“I mean. I guess.” Nadia rolled her eyes and having already noticed the girls boi-ish attire added, “just so you know, I don’t go that way.”
The female stranger laughed, “Chill. I’m not here for you.” She looked Nadia up and down before laughing again, ” You’re not even my type.”
“Hey Jessie,” the bartender said with a smile.
“Hey gorgeous. I was wondering when you were coming over.” Jessie grabbed the bartender’s hand with both of hers and you could see the chills go down her spine from Jessie’s touch.
“Let me get two margaritas please, oh and then take their order.” Jessie pointed to Nadia and Charles beside her.
Jessie paid for her drinks and walked away to the group she was with. Nadia’s eyes followed her. They all looked like they were having so much fun.
Nadia turned to Charles, “Let’s head to the club, it’s getting late.”
She didn’t wait for his response. She was already off her seat and headed for the door. She looked over her shoulder one last time at the group before leaving.

Wow…something tells me that Nadia liked that!! LOL
Oh yeah I can’t wait!!!
Nice! I really enjoyed that. I don’t know why, but I feel like the story isn’t going to be focused on Nadia. I’m more interested in Jessie and the bartenders story.
I don’t know…I’ll have to wait and see. Can’t wait to read Chapter 2! Great job.
