The wind was what woke me. It wasn’t windy, but I was moving quickly an making my own wind. Only I wasn’t really moving. I mean, I wasn’t moving myself. I was being carried. With this thought, I popped open my eyes and looked into Quinn’s face.
“Li! Oh my God! I’m so happy you’re awake! I’m taking you to the hospital.”
My mouth felt dry. I moved my tongue around but it felt like a dry sponge. “Hospital?” Quinn was placing me in the backseat of her car.
“Don’t you remember? You’ve been missing for two weeks now. Everybody’s been looking for you.” She was driving now. I closed my eyes against the sunlight. Everything was so bright.
“Delilah, baby, can you hear me? You had us so scared. Everybody. I wish I knew what happened, but I thank God you’re okay. Praise Him!” I started crying as soon as I heard Rev Mama’s voice. My eyes were still closed.
I was trying to make sense of the jumbled memories in my head. Quinn said I had been missing for two weeks. I didn’t have fourteen days worth of memories. It felt like three or four days.
“The doctors said you had a lot of drugs in your system.” I opened my mouth to speak, but before I could, she said, “I know you didn’t take anything. They found it in your lungs. Like you inhaled it.”
The police came into the room. There was an older graying black man in a suit. He looked tired. His suit was rumpled.
“Miss Ferguson, you gave us all a scare. We are happy to see that you’re going to be okay… Can you tell us what the last thing is you remember before you were abducted?”
I licked my lips to pry them apart. “A party. I went to a really wild party. There was a lot of drugs-” Rev Mama left the room with her head hanging low. “Lots of drugs. Sex everywhere. I didn’t know it was that kind of party. I went with my friend Sam. Jade invited us.” Something in my mind clicked. “Did you find Jade? Is she okay?”
“Miss Ferguson, don’t worry about Jade. We’ve got her in custody.”
“Custody?” Confusion clouded my mind.
“Don’t you know? She was the one that did this to you.”
