Regina was unusually quiet during dinner that night, but Jae reasoned that it would take some time for her to come around and to be as they once were. Unwavering, she continued to attempt some resemblance of a conversation between the two of them. “I really missed you and I’m glad you’ve agreed to give us this opportunity Regina” she started, flashing a smile.
“I’m glad too. Hopefully we get it right this time…” she responded flatly while pushing her food from one side of her plate to the other.
“Oh, before I forget. Morgan wanted me to ask you about corporate volunteering options down at your YMCA. She is looking to get her company involved and wants to work with you on a few different cooperatives. I told her you would love to get an accounting firm like that involved with your kids. Give her a call when your free?”
Regina nearly chocked on her wine and looked more shocked than amused. “Baby, I would love to help her out, but work has had me so swamped recently and I am not sure what her company could offer the kids.”
“Maybe internships for a couple of the older kids and the opportunity for the younger ones to spend time with a few positive individuals? I think it’s actually a great idea.”
Upset that Morgan had gone through Jae to get her attention and having barely touched her food, Regina announced that she was full and began clearing the table. “No, I don’t believe the Y would be interested” she stated now exiting the dining room.
Jae read her discomfort and although unsure of where it was coming from, she momentarily and unwisely dismissed the discussion.

Oh wow that was low….lol
