Justice, Lauren and Allison stood in silence for a moment after the police all cleared the house. Tatiana could be heard screaming from the squad car up until they all pulled off. The neighbors began going back into their homes, shaking their heads nonetheless about the nonsense happening over at the lesbian’s house.
Justice was the first to break the silence. “I can’t believe this is happening.”
“Yeah, this is crazy.” Ren agreed.
Alli stood quietly, not saying a word and thinking to herself, who have I fallen in love with.
Lauren walked over to Allison and put her arms around her. She was very shocked at her response to Tatiana’s cry for help. She knew they were having problems, but she hoped Allison wouldn’t turn her back on Tati when she needed her most.
Justice watched as Ren silently comforted Allison. She couldn’t believe she was already looking for a way to get her girlfriend out of jail. “Are you going to get that number out of the safe?” Justice finally spoke, losing her patience.
Allison didn’t respond. Instead, she walked away from both of her friends and went into the kitchen. Allison reached for the bottle of Whiskey that they kept hidden for special nights. She poured a tall glass and took it to the head. Ren walked in the kitchen behind her and snatched the bottle.
“This isn’t the time be drinking Alli.” Ren said, throwing the bottle into the sink.
Justice joined them in the kitchen, grabbing Allison’s glass and she finished the last drop. “Are you crazy?” Justice was yelling and Lauren stepped between them to create some distance. “Your girlfriend was just dragged off to jail. Are you going to do anything about it!?”
Allison continued to stare and didn’t respond. She reached for the glass but wasn’t strong enough to pry it out of Justice’s hand. Alli turned toward the wine rack in the corner and grabbed the closest bottle. Going into the drawer for the cork screw, she grabbed it and walked out of the kitchen.
Justice couldn’t believe her eyes. Her best friend was just taken to jail and the love of her life could care less. “Is this bitch nuts?!” Justice started screaming again as she walked out of the kitchen in search of Allison.
“Baby…calm down.” Lauren begged, following behind her.
Justice walked up to Allison, “Hello!!! Earth to Allison. Your girlfriend is going to jail. Are you going to do anything about it?”
Allison finally spoke, “Maybe.”
“Maybe!?” Justice snatched the cork screw that Alli was fumbling with and threw it behind them. “What the hell do you mean maybe? Don’t you care about her?”
The look in Allison’s eyes when Justice made that last comment went dark. She looked a Justice in disbelief and finally said more than one word. “Do I care about her? Are you kidding me Justice? I love that woman with all my heart. I’m here when she’s out screwing the world and I never question her love.” Tears began to roll down Allison’s face. “All I’ve ever tried to do was be there for her and she continues to push me away!”
“If you love her so much, let’s get the number out of the safe and go get her.” Justice grabbed the bottle of wine before walking away. “And stop trying to drink your problems away. Whatever you guys are going through, you will get through it sober.”
The three women walked upstairs, first Justice, Lauren and Allison trailed behind slowly. Justice lead them right into the master bedroom, opened the closet and pushed Tatiana’s clothes to the side. If Allison wasn’t so upset and withdrawn from the moment, she may have asked Justice how she knew exactly where the safe was.
“What’s the code? Do you know it?” Justice asked, bending down. After a few seconds went by without a response, Justice asked again, raising her voice. “Do you know the damn code Allison!?”
“Justice! Relax.” Ren screamed back at her. “This isn’t the time to get into a yelling match with each other.”
“Okay.” Justice spoke lower. “Maybe it’s her birthday.” Justice turned to the number she knew would open the safe. She knew Allison didn’t know the code, Justice just wanted to play along. The code wasn’t Tatiana’s birthday either, but they didn’t need to know that part.
“You were right baby.” Ren smiled when Justice entered the code and opened the door.
Alli and Ren bent down to look inside with Justice. The stacks of money caused everyone’s eyes to bulge. There were two handguns off to the side and on a white post it a word and a series of numbers.
Justice picked up the post it. “This must be who we should call.”
“Who is it? What does it say?” Allison finally spoke just above a whisper.
Justice passed the note to Allison, stood up and walked out of the closet. Allison looked at the note and tears began to fall from her eyes. She placed her right hand over her mouth. Allison shook her head in disbelief.
“Who is it” Ren asked. “What does it say? What’s wrong honey?”
“I can’t believe her.” Alli answered, passing the post it to Lauren.
Lauren took the note and read it out loud. “Baby Girl? Who’s baby girl?”
