Halfway: Chapter 11

Seven and AJ woke up in the same position they fell asleep in, on the couch, wrapped in each others arms. Seven tried to stay still as long as she could, relishing the feeling of having AJ’s soft body so close. Once she told her they could only be friends, this could never happen again. She had to enjoy it now.

AJ’s stomach was in knots. She wanted to be selfish. She wanted to pursue something with this woman, but this woman was her best friend’s sister. And her best friend didn’t even like this woman. She had to put her friendship first. She loved KT too much to hurt her this way. She audibly sighed.

Her sigh was a sign to Seven that she was awake. She started to move around as she moved to a sitting position. She looked into AJ’s eyes and she almost changed her mind. Her sister seemed to love this woman, in a way that was greater than friendship. She didn’t want to give her another reason to hate her. Seven started fidgeting with her hands. The silence was deafening.

“I think we should just be friends.” AJ had said it first. She moved away from Seven quickly. She didn’t want to be close to her, just in case…In case of what? In case she gives you a reason to change your mind?

Wait! Wasn’t that supposed to be my line? Seven thought. Ouch! She didn’t know it would feel like this. Seven was so used to ending things with women, she had very little experience with rejection. She should’ve said something first. She mentally kicked her own ass for not speaking sooner.
“You’re right. That means this can’t happen again.” Seven left the couch to use AJ’s bathroom. AJ stood motionless with her mouth hanging open. How dare her agree with me! She was supposed to talk me out of this! Hmmm, maybe she doesn’t care as much as I thought…

Seven left the bathroom with her composure in tact. As soon as AJ saw Seven she started moving towards the kitchen. She started pulling out pots and pans.

“Breakfast before you go? I don’t want drag this out, but I noticed you didn’t eat much last night. I don’t want to be a bad hostess.” Say no! Please!

“That’s so nice of you. Of course I’ll stay.” Why did she have to be so nice? How do I say no to that? I don’t want to be rude. Seven’s stomach started grumbling. AJ smiled for the first time all morning.

“Pancakes alright?” When Seven nodded, she continued speaking. “So you made sense of things yet? Its a lot to soak in.”

“That’s an understatement. The only family I’ve ever known was Grandma and now… I’ve got a sister and a mother…”

“And brother and another sister. They’re twins. KT didn’t tell you?”

“I’m not exactly KT’s favorite person right now. It’s not like I did this. She should be mad at that lying bitch she calls her mother.” AJ put a plate of fluffy pancakes in front of her.

“Well, that lying bitch, as you call her, is your mother too.” She watched as Seven covered her pancakes in syrup until they were swimming. “I could’ve just given you a cup of syrup to drink. Those pancakes just drowned.” She teased.

Seven started laughing causing her to tip her plate over, just slightly, but enough to drip syrup down her shirt. That caused them to laugh even more.

“I’m gonna go clean up.” She headed towards the bathroom. AJ was wiping up syrup when she heard a knock at the door. When she opened the door, KT came zooming past her.

“I feel so bad about the attitude I had with you when you left yesterday. I just wanted to apologize.”

“AJ, do you have a shirt I can borrow? Mine is way too sticky.” Seven came out of the bathroom in just her sports bra.

“So this is where you rushed off to? To console my baby sis? Keepin’ it all in the family, huh?” KT turned around and saw the half empty breakfast dishes on the table. “Sex so good you had to cook her breakfast? You go from layin’ up with me to layin’ up with her in a matter of hours? Talk about some whorish tendencies! My sister and my best friend. Ain’t this some shit!” She slammed the door behind her when she left.
